IT is based on the 1986 novel by Stephen King. The story follows a group of misfit kids that start experiencing strange occurrences after children begin disappearing in the small town of Derry, Maine. Their greatest fears are materialized through an evil clown named Pennywise who returns every 27 years to terrorize the town. The kids create a bond and band together to stop Pennywise from hunting down any more children. But can they overcome their fears to destroy Pennywise and save their lives?
How was the movie?
I never read the Stephen King novel and I remember the TV version really didn’t scare me much (maybe because it was made for TV). BUT this movie is one of the best horror movies I have seen in a long time and I am a horror movie junkie! IT is seriously creepy and scary. I dare you to watch this movie without jumping in your seat. The movie has an awesome story, great character development, impressive cinematography and art direction and it will scare the crap out of you. And according to the audience (and my girlfriend who was tightly clasped to my arm throughout the movie) they agree. The Stephen King novel was set in 1960. This story takes place in 1989 and has a “Stranger Things” vibe and reminiscent of the good movies made in throughout the 80’s. The casting of the kids was great and you genuinely like and care about their characters. The soundtrack was also very good and very creepy and helped build up the suspense while making you feel uneasy. The clown is as scary as hell and manifests into what you fear the most, which makes for some great scary monsters. The movie is also funny and had the audience laughing throughout the movie. I can’t say enough good things about this movie so go see IT!
Was IT worth the 4DX price?
You all know I LOVE 4DX horror movies! If you like to be scared, 4DX provides those little extras that can catch you off guard and make you jump. Sudden seat movements, vibrations, air blasts and leg ticklers come together to scare the crap out of you. This movie uses a lot of wind and water effects which I always think is cool. I love the wind in my hair as you’re driving down the road with your seat panning. Some of my favorite 4DX effects are the subtle ones. One of the bullies uses a lighter and aerosol spray to make a fireball and air sprays at your face whenever he lights it. This movie is scary and the 4DX will definitely enhance the movie and the scares. I kept laughing because the guy next to me was on a date and you can tell he was trying NOT to get scared. At one point in the movie there was a good scare and a gust of air shot behind his head and the seat jumped. He ducked and jumped at the same time 🙂 Just watching the standard version of IT will make you jump so be prepared for the 4DX version! There are NOT a lot of good horror movies out there and very few are even available in 4DX. I say spend the money and check this movie out in 4DX if you can handle IT!
